There is currently significant legislative activity in the field of packaging, and The Danish Plastics Federation has therefore decided to double its professional program at FoodTech from one day to two days. FoodTech, the Nordic leading destination for food technology, brings together the entire food industry at MCH Messecenter Herning from 27–29 October 2026, and The Danish Plastics Federations conference will take place on the final two days.

While The Danish Plastics Federation has previously held a one-day conference at FoodTech, the industry association is expanding the concept to two days this year – simply because there is even more to discuss. New regulations and increasing documentation requirements are raising many specific questions for companies, and with two conference days, there is room both to review the requirements and to hear how selected companies are working with them.

“When choosing packaging, it is necessary to take into account the properties of the packaging, its environmental impact and the regulatory requirements that are coming, so it is not always a straightforward calculation. At the conference, we will therefore focus, among other things, on the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, PFAS, food contact, recycling and environmental calculations. Our hope is that participants will leave with new knowledge and a stronger basis for working with packaging in practice,” explains Christina Busk, Environmental Policy Director, The Danish Plastics Federation, who sees significant potential in the conference:

“Knowledge sharing is absolutely central and a firmly established element of our industry. Many companies are working with the same questions, but have different experiences, and there is a great deal to be gained from sharing them. This also applies to experiences where something has proved difficult. When we bring these experiences to the forefront and learn from one another, it becomes easier for companies to move forward and make better decisions.”

Opportunity to meet the entire value chain

As The Danish Plastics Federation now strengthens its presence at FoodTech, this is also connected to the fact that the entire industry comes together here.

“It makes very good sense for us to be at FoodTech because this is where we meet the entire value chain, from packaging manufacturers to the companies that use the packaging for their products. It is through dialogue between the different links in the value chain that we gain a better understanding of which solutions can actually work. That is why it is also valuable that, at the conference, we can bring together authorities, experts and companies and introduce different perspectives,” says Christina Busk.

This time, the conference will also be supplemented by an after-work event, where the professional dialogue can continue in a more informal setting. According to Christina Busk, some of the best conversations arise precisely in this setting, where participants also have the opportunity to meet new people and potentially initiate new collaborations.

At the conference, visitors can look forward, among other things, to hearing representatives from Amcor, Sinatur, BEWI and Return It, who will focus on experience with the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, recycling in the hotel industry, as well as packaging properties and design, among other topics.

Supporting FoodTech’s ambition

The expanded conference program is also welcomed by the FoodTech team, which highlights its long-standing collaboration with The Danish Plastics Federation and the value of bringing industry stakeholders together to address current issues.

“We are very pleased with our collaboration with The Danish Plastics Federation and that they are expanding their conference at FoodTech to two days this year. They have put together a strong and highly relevant program that addresses some of the questions currently occupying food companies. This supports FoodTech’s ambition to be a place where the entire value chain comes together, shares knowledge and jointly gains a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the industry,” says Line Paugan Riis Jensen, Project Manager, MCH A/S.

FoodTech takes place at MCH Messecenter Herning from 27–29 October 2026, and The Danish Plastics Federations conference will take place on the final two days.
