Comet Bio, based in London, Ontario, and Schaumburg, Illinois, has developed a patented upcycling technology that produces innovative, healthy and sustainable ingredients from crop leftovers. Its Arrabina® arabinoxylan plant fiber extract is a premium prebiotic dietary fiber with superior tolerability and functionality. It is clinically proven to promote the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut, help maintain healthy blood glucose levels, and support immunity.

The project is established in cooperation with a second-generation bioethanol plant where the raw material is delivered. According to the bioethanol plant owners, the cooperation will create a solid and sustainable business for both the bioethanol plant and Comet Bio. The factory will continue to produce second-generation bioethanol and ingredients from processing by-products from the bioethanol process. Process Engineering is involved in the process design of the process plant for the arabinoxylan ingredients managed by our Food & Biotech Sector.

Process Engineering provides consulting services to Comet Bio for its process plant. Process Engineering collaborates across the project with the owner of the bioethanol plant and with authorities in connection with environmental approval.

Comet Bio and its investors have seen firsthand the growing consumer demand for ingredients that address gut health and sugar reduction. In addition, more consumers and companies are looking for ways to reduce food waste.

“This project is well balanced with Process Engineering’s values and interests. As one of the leading Danish consultants within process design, Process Engineering is the right partner to help ensure success,” says Director Food & Biotech Section, Michael Hastrup Andersen.
