The IFC International Food Contest is currently taking place as part of the food technology exhibition FoodTech, and on Tuesday afternoon the winners of a number of prestigious awards were announced. FoodTech, the dairy industry's combined exhibition and competition, takes place from 1-3 October 2024 at MCH Messecenter Herning, Denmark.
With around 1,100 participating products, the IFC International Food Contest is once again enjoying strong support from dairies, and the dairy industry's big celebration and award ceremony is now well underway.
On Tuesday, the winners of both the Gourmet Award and the International Dairy Contest were announced in front of a large audience in FoodTech's Hall M, where long rows of samples were also on display. Five Danish and two Swedish dairies were rewarded for their dedicated efforts and tasty products - see all the winners in the fact box below.
Henrik Damholt Jørgensen, CEO of the Danish Dairy Board, was the first to take the stage to present the awards. He welcomed everyone and emphasised that the IFC International Food Contest is 'the biggest event in the dairy industry in our region'.
He then gave the floor to Thise Dairy's long-serving and now retired CEO, Poul Johannes Pedersen, who wholeheartedly agreed.
- It's a day of celebration for Danish dairy farming, and this year's exhibition is once again breathtaking. I grew up with it and came here as a child with my father, who was also a dairyman. It's an event I've shared with many colleagues from dairies and related industries. It's a great day where you can meet friends, colleagues and competitors in a really good way, Poul Johannes Pedersen concluded.
Competition is 'worth its weight in gold'.
He then turned his attention to the competition part of the exhibition, which, according to the former CEO, has very important features.
- Grades are a matter of life and death for exhibitors. Getting a five for a mistake is heartbreaking, but getting the highest mark and even winning an award is fantastic. I've done both. For those of you who get a low grade - the sadness will pass, but you need to pick yourself up. And for those of you who get the highest grade and win various awards - enjoy today and tomorrow, but remember that the day after tomorrow it's all about getting your nose back to the grindstone, because recognition is something you have to earn every day, Poul Johannes Pedersen said, adding a few more words about grades:
- The grades do a lot for people, and they also do something for our products - I'm convinced that this annual dairy exhibition helps to raise the standard of Danish dairy products, because the participants really go the extra mile. And that's worth its weight in gold.
FoodTech has a wide reach
Other branches of the food industry are also well represented at FoodTech, which deals with all aspects of food technology. More than 265 exhibitors fill the halls with innovative and technological products and solutions, and the trade fair also offers a wide range of events and activities to give visitors food for thought. These include the IFC Water Congress, the Global Dilemma Conference, the Future Food Lab and the Danish 3D Printing Championships.
FoodTech Project Manager Thue Bjørslev Jensen, MCH A/S, says:
- It's in FoodTech's DNA to be an innovative and inspiring place to visit. A destination where visitors and exhibitors together set the direction for the food technology of the future, and where the industry's challenges and new solutions are explored through the exhibitors' products, knowledge sharing, conferences and cross-industry networking. In this way, we can make a decisive difference together, and we are already in the process of doing so - the halls are buzzing with life, and we are very grateful for that.
