ATEX extraction for dusty processes in food production
At Arla Foods, NTEK has installed a new extraction system for a spice room where handling spices generates dust during production. The solution needed to provide effective point extraction while meeting the specific requirements for ATEX-classified areas and food production.
Effective extraction without taking up unnecessary space
Three workstations with point extraction have been established in the spice room, allowing dust to be removed directly at the source. For one of the workstations, NTEK developed a custom-built extraction hood in stainless/acid-resistant steel, while the other two are equipped with flexible extraction arms in stainless/acid-resistant steel.
The extraction arms are adapted to the individual work areas and are ATEX-compliant and suitable for use in food production. This ensures that the entire work area is covered while allowing the extraction to be adapted to the individual processes.
ATEX-compliant filter system
The filter system is equipped with explosion relief and installed on a frame close to the ceiling to make optimal use of the available space in the room. The fan is located outdoors on the roof in a protective enclosure that both shields it from the weather and reduces noise.
The ductwork inside the production area is made from stainless/acid-resistant steel, while the ductwork outside the production area is made from galvanised components. The entire duct system, including the extraction arms and hood, is earthed in accordance with ATEX requirements.
The complete system is CE marked in accordance with the ATEX Directive and has been designed to meet the specific requirements of the production environment.
