Flexible steam generation

Steam demand in the food industry often varies throughout the day. Connecting several steam generators can make it possible to adjust production to current demand rather than relying on a single large generator to cover all operating conditions.

In a cascade system, a common control system manages which generators are operating. This can provide flexibility when demand fluctuates and allow maintenance to be scheduled on individual units while the remaining generators continue operating, provided sufficient capacity is available.

Another option is to use steam generators designed to operate with different fuel types. This can provide greater flexibility in energy supply, but requires an assessment of installation requirements, energy prices, efficiency and emissions.

Cascade operation and fuel flexibility are two different functions. Connecting several generators in the same system does not automatically allow switching between fuels; this depends on the selected models and their configuration.

Weiss ApS works with CERTUSS steam solutions, including systems in which multiple generators can be connected. When selecting an installation, the company's steam demand, load profile, energy supply and need for reserve capacity should all be considered.
