Case: An 8 mm perforated screen lowers the cost of processing potato pulp

The potato processing industry generates large quantities of potato pulp – cooked potato peelings and production residues. Once finely shredded, the pulp can be used as pig feed, for example. For one company in the industry, the challenge was to find a solution that could finely shred the pulp without the major investment required for a swing-hammer mill.
The challenge
To ensure good digestibility and efficient use as feed, potato pulp needs to be shredded very finely. The company previously used a large swing-hammer mill. This required a considerable investment and took up substantial floor space, making it difficult for smaller companies to justify the cost.
The solution
The company chose a Vogelsang RotaCut® 3000 Inline macerator. The equipment is fitted with an 8 mm perforated screen, which reduces the potato pulp to an almost mashed-potato-like consistency. This makes the pulp suitable for use as feed.
The stainless steel construction withstands the corrosive effects of potato pulp. At the same time, the compact solution requires significantly less space than a conventional swing-hammer mill.
The result
With the RotaCut® 3000 Inline macerator, the company has gained a cost-effective solution for finely shredding potato pulp. Purchase and running costs are significantly lower than those of a conventional swing-hammer mill, while the space requirement is considerably reduced.
The potato pulp can therefore be processed into a uniform mass suitable for use as feed. The result is a compact and cost-effective solution for making better use of residues from potato processing.
