Linde at FoodTech: Less Product Loss and Higher Yield with Nitrogen Freezing

At FoodTech, Linde Gas is once again putting the spotlight on the many advantages of nitrogen freezing and cooling. Together, these benefits make cryogenic technology a highly profitable solution for food manufacturers. Among the most significant advantages are reduced product loss and increased production capacity, both resulting from the rapid cooling and freezing capabilities of liquid nitrogen. Less product loss naturally translates into improved profitability.

Linde supports customers throughout the entire process, from concept to implementation.

Reduced Product Loss, Higher Yield
Both nitrogen freezing and nitrogen cooling continue to gain popularity across the food industry. The reason is simple: ultra-cold liquid nitrogen (approximately -185°C) enables extremely fast and efficient freezing of food products.

Because freezing takes place so quickly, moisture evaporation is significantly reduced compared to conventional mechanical freezing. The result is a higher product yield measured in kilograms or tonnes.

"As a rule of thumb, evaporation loss during nitrogen freezing is typically around half that of conventional freezing," says Flemming Kay from Linde Gas.

He adds:
"This has a significant impact on profitability, particularly when processing products worth more than DKK 100 per kilogram. Maximizing yield becomes extremely important."

Introducing the New Super Contact Freezer
At FoodTech, Linde will showcase the latest addition to the CRYOLINE® portfolio: the new CRYOLINE® Super Contact Nitrogen Freezer.

The system has been specifically optimized for improved efficiency. This means significantly lower nitrogen consumption while achieving even faster freezing rates and increased production capacity.

Fast Installation
One of the key advantages of a nitrogen freezer is the ease and speed of installation.

In fact, a CRYOLINE® freezer can typically be installed and commissioned within a single working day. First, piping is established between the nitrogen storage tank and the freezer. The freezing unit is then positioned in the production area and connected to utilities, including electricity and nitrogen supply.

Within a single day, the freezer can be fully operational and ready for production.

A Flexible Freezing Solution
If production requirements change, the installed nitrogen freezer can easily be replaced with a larger or smaller unit.

Such a replacement can typically be completed within a single working day.

"Nitrogen freezing is an extremely flexible solution that can be adapted quickly and cost-effectively to changing production requirements," says Flemming Kay.

All Linde nitrogen freezers are supplied on a rental basis, offering customers additional flexibility while minimizing capital investment.

Growing Interest in Nitrogen Cooling
"We are seeing increasing interest in nitrogen cooling, and the market continues to grow steadily," says Flemming Kay.

Nitrogen cooling offers many of the same benefits as nitrogen freezing. Key advantages include reduced product loss, greater cooling capacity within a smaller production footprint, and rapid cooling that can help improve product shelf life.

Test Your Products at the Linde Food Test Center
If you would like to experience nitrogen freezing firsthand, you are welcome to visit the Linde Food Test Center in Helsingborg, Sweden.

Bring your own products and work alongside Linde specialists to conduct freezing trials under real operating conditions.

These trials provide valuable insights into expected product loss and yield, fixed and variable operating costs, installation and start-up requirements, nitrogen consumption per kilogram of product as well as product quality, tme and space requirements.

The trials are completely non-binding and allow you to evaluate the benefits before deciding whether to rent a nitrogen freezer.
