FoodTech Challenge is an open innovation competition taking place during the FoodTech fair. A number af students work in teams solving real cases provided by leading equipment suppliers and processing companies. The purpose of the challenge is to give the participating companies considerable knowledge about specific project ideas, and to give the participating students the opportunity to improve their network, skills and future job opportunities.
The Challenge was first held in 2014. The 5 cases were all real-life challenges from the participating companies - Arla Foods, Barry Callebaut, DuPont, GEA and Marel - making the concepts potential game-changers for the companies. 800 students applied for the roles, out of which 25 were selected to join the teams. The students came from 10 different countries, making the teams diverse and secured a global perspective on the cases and concepts. All teams came up with concepts easily implemented by the participating companies, and gave way for new business ventures for the companies and posed network job opportunities for the participating students.
The winner of FoodTech Challenge 2014 was the team working with DuPonts case. The winner was appointed by an international panel of judges.
